Abstract
|

|
Observations utilizing the bioassay technique of McCreasy, Adams, and Overmann were made on the antidiuretic action of the plasma of eleven patients with toxemia of pregnancy and the normal female plasma to which pitressin was added. The results obtained were as follows.
1) The antidiuretic action of the plasma to which varied amount of pitressin was added was increased
in proportion to the concentration of pitressin added.
2) The antidiuretic action of the plasma of the patients with toxemia of pregnancy was increased markedly as compared with that of the plasma of the normal full-term pregnant women.
This increase in antidiuretic action is proportional to the clinical severity of the toxemia of pregnancy.
